The MoYu Meilong 13x13 V3 is a non-magnetic 13x13 cube measuring 75 mm per side and weighing approx. 283 g, making it noticeably smaller and lighter than the first Meilong 13x13. It has a one-piece six-arm core, screw tension adjustment and an anti-pop design.
The MoYu Meilong 13x13 V3 fits thirteen layers into a cube measuring 75 mm per side and weighs about 283 g. For comparison, the first version of the Meilong 13x13 was 100 mm and weighed almost 600 g. A smaller, lighter cube is less tiring for your hands, and with a 13x13 that matters, because a single solve takes hours rather than minutes. This is the non-magnetic version of the 13x13 cube from the Meilong series, stickerless with frosted pieces.
All layers turn around a one-piece core with six arms (six-pillar integrated core). This type of core doesn't loosen or deform as easily as a core assembled from several parts, and with so many pieces, that makes the whole cube more stable. The internal pieces have rounded shapes and a design that protects against popping. Tension is adjusted with screws, so you can set it for lighter turning or for more control.
This version has no magnets, so the layers don't snap into place on their own. You have to finish and align every move by hand, especially when turning several layers at once. In return, turning is lighter, with no magnetic resistance. Sellers consistently point out that the cube turns smoothly right out of the box. At 75 mm, a single layer is just under 6 mm wide, so you need to grip exactly the right number of layers. This comes with practice and isn't a defect of a particular unit.
MoYu has also released the Meilong 13x13 V3 in a magnetic version with Ball-Core. It has 184 magnets plus magnets in the core, which help position and stabilize the layers. Here we describe the version without magnets, a simpler and lighter design. It's a good fit if you care more about completing such a big cube than about fast times.
It's a good cube for someone who already solves 5x5–7x7 cubes and wants to try a really big one. The method stays the same: centers first, then edges, and finally a 3x3 stage. It does, however, take much more work and patience. Meilong series collectors will be happy too. A tip for parents: this isn't a cube for beginners. It's better to master the 3x3 first, then the 4x4 and 5x5.
