MoYu MeiLong 2x2x2 Magnetic + Robot

MoYu MeiLong 2x2 Magnetic is an affordable magnetic 2x2 cube from the MeiLong series. MoYu releases it under the MFJS brand (MoFang JiaoShi, meaning Cubing Classroom). Since its release in 2020, the MeiLong 2x2 M has been one of the most frequently recommended budget 2x2 cubes. This set contains the standard cube in the stickerless bright colour scheme, packed in a plastic robot-shaped container. The robot works as both a box and a stand for the cube.

How it turns

The cube comes with factory-installed magnets of medium or rather weak strength. They don't stop the turns as clearly as in more expensive 2x2 cubes, but they help you finish a layer turn and give you a bit more control than the non-magnetic MeiLong. Out of the box, the cube turns smoothly with a slightly "clicky" sound and is fairly fast. Users praise its corner cutting. Some of them point out the spring noise and that popping can happen if the tension is set too loose. The cube gets better after breaking in and lubing.

Tension is adjusted with screws in the core. There are no systems known from flagship models, such as MagLev, Ball-Core or compression adjustment.

The robot box

• The robot's arms and legs can be raised and lowered.
• The front "window" can be removed so you can put the cube in or take it out.
• You can stack several robots on top of each other and arrange them in different poses.

The cube inside is a regular MeiLong 2x2 M. The robot doesn't change how it turns. This version simply has different packaging, which works well as a gift or on a shelf.

Who is it for?

It's a great first magnetic 2x2 cube for a child or for someone who is just starting to solve the 2x2 and doesn't want to spend a lot of money right away. The robot-shaped box is especially handy if you're buying it as a gift. A speedcuber who trains 2x2 regularly will sooner or later need a model with stronger magnets and more adjustment options. For getting started and casual solving, the MeiLong M is more than enough.
