MoYu MeiLong 2x2x2 is a budget 2x2 cube from the MeiLong series. The series is sold under the MoFang JiaoShi brand, which belongs to MoYu. This version has no magnets and comes in a plastic box (hence "Plastic Box" in the name). It is stickerless with a bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel. The 50 mm size is standard for a 2x2, and the cube sits comfortably in both a child's and an adult's hand.

How it turns

The MeiLong 2x2 turns lightly and is fairly fast right out of the box. You don't need to break it in first for learning or casual solving. The internal design resembles this manufacturer's newer 2x2 cubes, with simplified internal pieces. The feel is light and somewhat "hollow", with a noticeable clicking sound when turning. The cube has no magnets, so the layers don't settle into place on their own. When you turn faster, overshooting and slightly misaligned corners are more likely, and you'll need to correct them before the next move. Lubing usually improves smoothness and makes the mechanism quieter.

MeiLong 2x2 or MeiLong 2M?

The same series also includes a magnetic version, the MeiLong 2M. Magnets help align the layers, which makes turns more precise and more controlled. The non-magnetic version is slower and less precise, but it's cheaper and works well as a first 2x2 or a spare cube for your backpack. If you start timing your solves more seriously after a while, sooner or later you'll switch to a magnetic cube.

For people who are just learning to solve the 2x2, and for parents looking for an inexpensive, durable cube for their child. It also works well as a second cube to carry around. A speedcuber aiming for fast times will probably find this model isn't enough.
