MoYu Meilong 3x3 Bead Cube

MoYu Meilong 3x3 Bead Cube is a 3x3 cube with an extra feature on every face: a circular track with 16 coloured beads. The beads sit in the track and move together with the turning layers, so when you scramble the cube, it's not just the face colours that get mixed up but the beads too. The cube measures 76 mm, which makes it noticeably bigger than a typical speedcube (usually around 56 mm). It comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How is it different from a regular 3x3?

You solve it exactly like a classic 3x3 cube. If you know the layer-by-layer method, you can solve the face colours without learning anything new. The difference is the beads: after a scramble, each face turns into a colourful mix, and sorting the beads is an extra challenge on top of the colours themselves. This gives the cube a different look from a regular 3x3, and it's simply nice to turn in your hands.

To be clear, this is not a speedcube. The cube has no magnets and no tension adjustment system, and because of its larger size and weight of approx. 160 g it is much heavier than cubes designed for speedsolving. For timed practice and high TPS, a classic magnetic 3x3 is a better choice, e.g. one from the same Meilong series.

Who is it for?

The Bead Cube works well as a collector's curiosity, a gift for someone who can already solve a 3x3, or a cube to fiddle with at your desk. It will also appeal to kids who enjoy colourful puzzles. The larger size makes it easier to hold for smaller hands, and the beads add extra fun. If you're looking for your first cube to learn speedsolving, this model won't be a good choice.
