MoYu MeiLong 4x4 Magnetic is a magnetic 4x4 cube from MoYu's budget MeiLong series. This version has one difference: instead of a regular box, you get a robot-shaped container. The cube goes inside, and afterwards you can put the robot on a shelf or on your desk. The MeiLong 4x4 has been on the market since 2020 and is still often recommended as a first 4x4 cube, because it offers a lot for its price range.

How it turns

Turning is smooth and controllable. This cube doesn't run away from you, so it's easier to keep under control while you're learning center reduction and edge pairing. The magnets help the layers settle into place, so turns finish more clearly and you get fewer misaligned layers and lockups. The mechanism also has anti-pop protection. On a 4x4 this matters, because it's hard to practice parity calmly on a cube that keeps falling apart. Many people later move from the MeiLong to more expensive 4x4s with stronger magnets and more adjustment options. For your first months of solving, this model is more than enough.

Robot box

The robot is movable: its arms and legs can be raised and lowered. The body has a removable window that you use to put the cube in and take it out. It works well as a gift, especially for a child who is just starting out with cubes. The robot only changes the packaging; the cube itself is a standard magnetic MeiLong 4x4.
