MoYu MeiLong 4x4x4 is part of MoYu's budget MeiLong series, aimed at people who are just starting out or want an affordable cube to learn on. This version comes in a plastic box in the stickerless bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers to wear off or peel. The colours are moulded into the plastic. The 4x4 cube measures 59 mm and weighs approx. 101 g. This is the classic version without magnets. The magnetic version is sold as the MeiLong 4M.

How it turns

The MeiLong 4x4 has a solid, smooth feel. The matte plastic gives medium grip, so the cube doesn't slip in your hands, but it doesn't stick to your fingers either. Without magnets, the layers don't "click" into place. You need to finish your turns more precisely, or lockups become more likely, especially when you turn faster. While you're learning to build centres, pair edges and solve parity, this doesn't matter much. Once you start timing your solves and turning faster, though, you'll notice the difference compared to magnetic models.

MeiLong 4x4 without magnets or MeiLong 4M?

Both versions are the same size and share the same budget character. The difference is in how they behave when turning. The magnetic version is more stable and easier to control, because the magnets help align the layers. The non-magnetic version is simpler and is enough for anyone who just wants to learn how to solve a 4x4 cube. If you already know you'll be training for time, consider the magnetic version.

Who is it for?

This 4x4 cube works well as a first cube to learn on for someone who can already solve a 3x3. It also makes a good gift for a child or a spare second cube. An experienced speedcuber looking for a competition cube will probably choose a higher-end magnetic model with more adjustment options.
