MoYu MeiLong 6x6 V2

MoYu MeiLong 6x6 V2 is the second version of the budget 6x6 cube from the MeiLong series. MoYu redesigned the mechanism because the first MeiLong 6x6 was not very successful. This version has no magnets. The cube measures 61 mm, so it is fairly small and light for a 6x6. It sits comfortably in your hands, even smaller ones. It comes in two colour versions: Black and Stickerless Bright.

How it turns

Out of the box, the MeiLong 6x6 V2 is usually quite tight and dry, and the feel can be slightly sandy. Loosening the tension and adding lube improves it a lot. This cube needs more lube than a typical 3x3. The outer layers turn smoothly. The inner layers feel heavier, and that is where lockups happen most often. The V2 mechanism is more stable than the first version, so layers catch less often. This cube is not made for high TPS, but it is perfectly fine for relaxed solving and for learning centre and edge reduction.

What changed in V2

• Redesigned mechanism intended to reduce layer catching and lockups.
• Pieces with lube grooves that hold lube longer, so the cube dries out more slowly after lubing.
• New colour shades that are easier to tell apart while solving.
• Lightweight build, which really matters on a 6x6 during longer solves.

Magnetic or non-magnetic?

The series also includes the MeiLong 6x6 V2 M, which has 144 magnets. The layers snap into place with a clear "click", making it easier to solve fast and accurately. The non-magnetic version turns looser and less precisely, but it is cheaper. If this is your first big cube to see whether you enjoy 6x6, the non-magnetic version is more than enough.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a 4x4 or 5x5 and wants to try a 6x6 without spending a lot of money. It also makes a good gift for a child who is interested in cubes. Speedcubers who train 6x6 for time usually switch quickly to a higher-end magnetic model.
