MoYu MeiLong 7x7x7

MoYu MeiLong 7x7x7 is a budget 7x7 cube from the MeiLong series. The series is sold under the MoFangJiaoShi (Cubing Classroom) brand, which belongs to MoYu. This is the first generation of the model, without magnets. It measures approx. 66.5 mm, so it is noticeably smaller than a typical 7x7 and works well as your first step into big cubes.

Construction

The internal design is very simple: the pieces form a single layer, and the bases of the corners and edges have deep cut-outs. This makes the cube lighter and reduces the contact area between pieces, so the layers turn more easily. The plastic is thin. The MeiLong has no magnets or other performance-enhancing features. Tension is adjusted with adjustment screws.

How it turns

Turning is light and smooth, and the small size and low weight mean the cube won't tire your hands during longer solves. Its weak point is corner cutting, which is quite limited. You need to align the layers fairly precisely, because lockups and catching happen easily when you solve fast. For relaxed solving and learning the reduction method this isn't a problem, but you will notice it at a faster pace.

Who is it for?

For beginners and anyone who wants to find out whether they enjoy big cubes before buying a more expensive model. If you plan to train 7x7 regularly for time, sooner or later you'll want a cube with better corner cutting or with magnets. Don't confuse this model with the newer MeiLong 7x7 V2, which is a separate cube with a different size and is also available in a magnetic version.
