MoYu Meilong 7x7x7 V2

This is the second generation of the budget 7x7 from the Meilong series. The MoYu Meilong 7x7x7 V2 is a non-magnetic cube. It measures approx. 63.2 mm, a few millimetres smaller than the first version (approx. 66 mm). Many users point out that it is smaller than quite a few 6x6 cubes. This makes it easier to hold and to reach the inner layers with your fingers. It's a good 7x7 cube if you are just moving on to big cubes and don't want to spend a lot right away.

How it turns

Thanks to its small size and a weight of approx. 155 g, the cube won't tire your hands during long solves. In reviews, the V2 comes out faster, smoother and lighter than its predecessor. Users describe the turning as smooth, with few lockups. Corner cutting is average, but that's normal at this price point. The plastic has a matte finish and medium grip.

With no magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own. When turning fast, you need to keep the layers aligned, or the next move can easily catch. Budget big cubes can also pop when loosened a lot, so don't overdo it when loosening for speed. The cube responds well to lube, and its design includes spots where the lube stays in longer.

V2 or V2 M?

The Meilong 7x7 V2 also comes in a magnetic version (V2 M). The magnets make the layers clearly "click" into place, so the cube becomes more accurate and stable during fast solving. The non-magnetic version is slower and less precise, but many people like its calmer, looser feel. It's more than enough for your first solves and for learning the reduction method. If you want to time your solves and train 7x7 regularly, you'll probably appreciate the M version sooner.
