This is the popular budget 7x7 cube from the MeiLong series, modified by Picube. It is based on the MeiLong 7x7 V2M by MFJS, a brand owned by MoYu. The base cube already has factory magnets in the edges and corners. Picube adds magnets in the core that work together with the magnets in the pieces. This core magnet version of the 7x7 cube is designed to give more stability and control than the standard V2M, which is noticeably cheaper.

The base version: what you should know

The MeiLong 7 V2M is smaller than most 7x7 cubes. Its design is based on the MoYu AoFu WRM, but the pieces of the two cubes are not interchangeable. The cube is light and fairly hollow inside. According to reviews, forward corner cutting is good, while reverse corner cutting is clearly weaker. When you try to force a cut, the cube rarely gets serious lockups and doesn't pop. Users praise the smooth turning and the strong magnets on the outer layers. They also point out catching on the slices, weaker magnets on the inner layers and occasional popping when the cube is loosened a lot for speed.

What the core magnets change

Picube's modification targets the biggest weakness of the base version. The core magnets help align the layers and hold them in place during fast turning. As a result, the cube should "drift" less and be less forgiving of imprecise moves that leave layers half-turned. This gives a more "solid" and controllable feel.
