MoYu MeiLong Megaminx M

MoYu MeiLong Megaminx M is a magnetic megaminx from the budget MeiLong series, released in 2021 under the MoFangJiaoShi (Cubing Classroom) brand, a sub-brand of MoYu. It was one of the first affordable megaminxes with magnets, so many people use it to make the jump from the 3x3 cube to the dodecahedron. This version is stickerless in the bright colour scheme.

How it turns

Turning is smooth and the puzzle feels stable. The magnets are medium strength: the layers clearly snap into place, but you don't have to push them hard. On a megaminx this helps a lot, because with pentagonal faces it's easy to under-turn a move, and under-turned layers quickly lead to lockups. The internal mechanism is simple. From the outside, the MeiLong M is easy to recognise by its convex pieces, which sit comfortably under your fingers.

This is a puzzle from the lower price range, so don't expect the setup options and refinement of flagship megaminxes. If you train seriously for competitions and want to tailor the puzzle to your style, sooner or later you will probably reach for a more expensive model.

Megaminx M or Megaminx V2 M?

The MeiLong series also includes the newer V2 M version from 2024. It has differently shaped pieces with gaps between them that improve grip. This product is the first generation with convex pieces. Both are budget magnetic megaminxes, and they differ mainly in the shape of the pieces and how they feel in your hands.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to get started with the megaminx without spending a lot on a high-end model right away. It also works well as an inexpensive magnetic megaminx for casual solving. The included instructions will be handy for beginners and for parents buying their child's first puzzle of this kind. Megaminx is a WCA event, so the MeiLong M is also suitable for official competitions.
