MoYu RS Maglev Pyraminx

MoYu RS Maglev Pyraminx is an affordable magnetic Pyraminx from the RS series, the line in which MoYu releases budget versions of its puzzles. It came out in 2022 alongside the regular RS Pyraminx M. Some shops also sell it as the RS3 Pyraminx MagLev. The main difference from the magnetic version is the MagLev system in place of springs. You can also recognize it easily by its purple internal plastic. We stock the Stickerless Bright colour scheme.

MagLev in a Pyraminx

In a classic Pyraminx, the pieces are held together by springs on screws. Here they have been replaced with repelling magnets. This makes turning lighter and quieter, with no spring noise. On top of that, positioning magnets help the layers settle after every move. Their strength is usually described as moderate, so the puzzle doesn't feel very "clicky". According to the manufacturer, corner cutting reaches 60 degrees.

The puzzle is fast and light. Keep in mind that this is a budget model. If you turn very hard, you may find the magnets too weak and the puzzle harder to control than more expensive Pyraminxes. Tension adjustment is done with the screw under the centers.

RS Maglev or regular RS Pyraminx M?

Mechanically, it's the same platform. The magnetic version with springs and a standard interior has a slightly firmer, more "classic" feel. The MagLev version turns more smoothly and lightly, and it is also marginally heavier. If you want to try MagLev in a Pyraminx on a low budget, this is the easiest way to do it. If you're aiming for regular competitions and fast times, sooner or later you may want to look at a flagship model, e.g. the WeiLong Pyraminx MagLev.

Who is it for?

A good choice as a first proper Pyraminx for a child, or for someone who has moved on from the 3x3 to other WCA puzzles and wants to learn without spending a lot. For intermediate solvers, this model also works well as a backup or practice puzzle.
