MoYu RS Magnetic Pyraminx

The MoYu RS Magnetic Pyraminx (the manufacturer also calls it the RS Pyraminx M) is part of MoYu's budget RS series, which also includes affordable 3x3 cubes and a Skewb. It's a magnetic Pyraminx in the classic spring-based version, with tension and compression adjustment. This version is stickerless in a bright colour scheme and has a matte (frosted) finish.

How it turns

This Pyraminx is light and fairly fast right out of the box. Users most often describe its feel as smooth, crisp and slightly "papery". The magnets help the layers settle into place and make it easier to land each turn during fast solving, so turning is more predictable than on a non-magnetic Pyraminx. Opinions on the magnets themselves are mixed. Some people find the strength just right, while others feel it's too weak. A few users also mention a dry, slightly sandy feel at first. A little lube and a short break-in period usually help.

Adjustment

The RS Magnetic has a dual adjustment system that lets you set the spring tension (tensioning) and compression separately. This means you can set the Pyraminx looser for speed, or tighter if you prefer more control and less wobbly layers.

Magnetic or MagLev?

The RS Pyraminx series comes in two versions. The one described here is the Magnetic version with regular springs. In the MagLev version, the springs are replaced by repelling magnets, which usually gives slightly faster and lighter turning, while the Pyraminx itself is a bit heavier. The spring version is cheaper and easier to understand if you're just starting to adjust your puzzles.

Who is it for?

It's a good first magnetic Pyraminx for beginners or for kids who have already mastered the 3x3 and want to try a new puzzle. It also works well as an affordable main for cubers who solve Pyraminx for fun or occasionally compete in this event. If you're looking for the fastest possible turning, consider the MagLev version.
