MoYu Training Assistant – Bluetooth speedcubing timer

A regular timer shows your solve time, and that's where its job ends. The MoYu Training Assistant does more: it generates scrambles on its own display and sends your results via Bluetooth to the WCU Cube app. That means no writing down times and no phone with csTimer next to you. Each solve goes straight into your history together with the scramble used for it. In some shops this timer is sold as the MoYu Smart Timer V2.

Timing and operation

The timer measures time with 0.001 s accuracy. The touch pads work by detecting the heat of your hands. Starting and stopping work just like at competitions: you place both hands on the pads, lift them to start and put them back down to stop the timer. A 15-second inspection with automatic start is available. The function buttons are on the sides of the casing, so they are harder to press by accident. Once timing starts, the timer also locks the other buttons so that an accidental touch won't erase your result. Anti-slip feet on the bottom keep it from sliding on the mat when you slam your hands down quickly.

Scrambles and the app

Scrambles are generated algorithmically for several types of puzzles. This makes for fairer training than scrambling a cube "by eye", and it's easy to go back to solves with a specific scramble later. Once paired with the WCU Cube app, every solve syncs in real time and is saved to the cloud. In the app you'll see progress charts, time distribution and averages, including Ao100. The timer settings let you adjust the sound, scramble mode, language, Bluetooth, touch pad sensitivity and screen brightness.

Power

The timer has a built-in rechargeable battery and charges via USB-C. The manufacturer states up to 16 hours of use on a single charge, so there's no need to replace batteries.

Who is it for?

For cubers who train regularly and want all their times and statistics in one place, without copying results by hand. It also works well for beginners, because from the very first weeks you can see on the charts how your averages drop. For simply timing solves at home, a basic timer without Bluetooth is enough. The Training Assistant's features are most useful when you use the app and analyse your results.
