MoYu WeiLong Ferrocore V2 3x3 Matte

This is the second generation of the Ferrocore, developed by MoYu together with CubeHead. The first version was based on the WeiLong WRM V10. The MoYu WeiLong Ferrocore V2 3x3 now uses the body and mechanism of the WeiLong V11. It keeps what made the original stand out: strong magnets, a flexible core and a grey interior. This version has a matte (frosted) surface with no UV coating and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The Ferrocore V2 is fast, but its magnets are noticeably stronger than in the standard V11. Every move has a distinct "click", and the cube readily snaps layers into place on its own. Reviewers praise its very good corner cutting and good resistance to popping, even at looser settings. The feel is smooth. Some users point out that it is louder and that you can hear the springs straight out of the box. Lubing usually helps with this.

Magnet strength cannot be adjusted. If you prefer weaker or medium magnets, keep this in mind. If you turn very lightly and are looking for the fastest possible cube, the Ferrocore may feel too "controlled".

Ball-Core, springs and adjustment

• 20-magnet Ball-Core: magnets in the core that help align the layers and keep the cube stable during fast turning.
• Springs instead of MagLev. The classic spring system gives a slightly more controllable feel than the V11.
• Reinforced core. The Ferrocore name comes from the metal parts in the core. In the V2, the magnetic Ball-Core is reinforced with a screw.
• 8 levels of tension and 8 levels of compression, adjusted with the key included in the box.

Matte or UV?

Both versions have the same mechanism. Only the finish is different. The Matte version is made of matte plastic with medium grip and no shine. The UV version has a glossy coating that grips your fingers more firmly. The choice mainly comes down to which surface you prefer in your hands.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers looking for a flagship 3x3 cube with strong magnets and stable, predictable behaviour at high TPS. The Ferrocore V2 is also a good choice if you liked the first Ferrocore and want the same character on a newer platform. For a child's first cube, a cheaper magnetic model is usually enough.
