MoYu WeiLong Ferrocore V2 3x3 UV

MoYu WeiLong Ferrocore V2 3x3 UV is the second generation of the Ferrocore, developed by MoYu together with CubeHead. This time it is based on the WeiLong V11 instead of the WRM V10 used in the first version. It keeps the strong magnets, flexible core and grey internals of the original. The UV version has a glossy coating on all faces and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How the Ferrocore V2 differs from the regular V11

• Springs instead of MagLev. The core runs on classic springs, which are also set tighter at the factory than in the V11. This makes turning a bit more controllable.
• Stronger magnets. They are noticeably stronger than in any version of the V11 and cannot be adjusted.
• 20-magnet Ball-Core reinforced with a screw. The metal in the core is where the name Ferrocore comes from. The magnets in the core help keep the layers in place during fast turning.
• Grey internal plastic, which makes the pieces fit together slightly more tightly.

How it turns

The cube is fast and at the same time clearly "snaps" into place with every move. Users often describe it like this: speed similar to MagLev cubes, but with more control and a stronger magnetic feel. Reviewers rate its corner cutting and pop resistance highly. The feel is smooth. Out of the box you may sometimes hear the springs, but lubing usually fixes that.

If you like light or medium magnets or a very loose, "flowing" cube, the Ferrocore V2 may feel too "tight". If you have been solving on the V11 so far and want something more stable, this difference will be an advantage.

Adjustment

You get 8 levels of tension adjustment and 8 levels of compression. You set them with the included key, using the same system as in the V11.

UV or Matte?

Both versions have the same mechanism. The UV version has a glossy surface that grips your fingers better, which is useful if you like a stronger grip. The Matte version has a frosted, non-glossy finish and a more moderate grip.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers who want a flagship 3x3 cube with strong magnets and predictable behaviour at high TPS, as well as for fans of the first Ferrocore. On a limited budget, the standard WeiLong V11 is still a very sensible choice. For a child's first cube, a cheaper magnetic model is more than enough.
