MoYu WeiPo V5 AI Gyroscope Core UV 2x2 is a smart cube, meaning a cube that connects to an app on your phone via Bluetooth. It is based on the WeiPo V5, MoYu's flagship 2x2. The app sees every move in real time, so you can time your solves, analyze them, learn and play online with other cubers. This version has a UV coating and comes in the stickerless bright color scheme.

What is the gyroscope for?

A regular smart cube only registers layer turns. The gyroscope in the core also tracks rotations of the whole cube in your hands. As a result, the 3D model in the app mirrors the cube more accurately, and the solve preview and analysis show more precisely what actually happened during the solve.

Mechanism and feel

The cube has 64 magnets. Besides the magnets in the pieces, it also has corner-to-core magnets, placed between the corners and the core. They help the layers snap into place and stabilize the cube. The magnets are medium strength, so the turning is neither very light nor strongly "snappy". The pieces have a "dragon scale" shape and large rounded corners, which according to the manufacturer improve corner cutting and smoothness. You can set the compression on 8 levels with the dual-adjustment system, without unscrewing any screws.

The UV coating gives a glossy surface with noticeably more grip than matte plastic. It also helps the cube resist scratches better.

WeiPo V5 AI or the regular WeiPo V5?

The standard WeiPo V5 has a 20-magnet Ball-Core and does not connect to an app. In the AI version, part of the core is taken up by electronics, namely the gyroscope and the battery, so the magnet layout is different. If you only want a cube for competitions and don't need the app, the regular version gives you a similar platform without electronics. Choose the AI version if you want to analyze your solves and train with your phone.

Who is it for?

For cubers who solve 2x2 and want to train with an app: track progress, check solutions and compete online. A smart cube is also useful if you're learning new methods, because you can see the course of every solve in the app. Keep in mind that this is a cube with electronics: it needs charging, and using it depends largely on the app.
