MSCUBE MS3-V1 LM 3x3

The MS3-V1 is the first cube from MsCube. The company was founded by a former GAN designer, and it shows right away. The MSCUBE MS3-V1 LM 3x3 is a magnetic speed cube released in 2021. Its design and the way it feels in your hands are reminiscent of GAN cubes. The LM version has weaker magnets than the M version, so it turns more lightly and "clicks" less strongly when the layers snap into place.

How it turns

In terms of performance, the cube comes very close to GAN puzzles. Reviewers describe the feel as crunchy and tactile, and the cube itself as fast and fairly flexible. Corner cutting gets good reviews. Some users notice that slice moves are a little slower. Straight out of the box the cube may feel a bit sandy, so give it some time to break in or apply your own lube.

The pieces have clearly visible spiderweb-shaped grooves. The edges use a double-foot system.

Adjustment: dual-position core and MAS

The most interesting thing about this model is its adjustment. It works in two ways:

• Dual-position core. It changes the distance of the centers from the middle of the cube.
• MsCube Adjusting System (MAS), 5 positions. The name was coined by one of the reviewers. The system adjusts spring tension. Changing the distance of the center from the middle also compresses or loosens the spring at the same time.
• Three sets of springs: black-and-silver (hard), silver (medium) and gold (soft).

So there are plenty of settings, but you will need to experiment a little. Users say that adjusting it takes patience. According to them, even on the tightest settings the cube stays rather loose. If you like a very tight, stiff setup, keep this in mind.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like the feel of GAN cubes, prefer weaker magnets and want to fine-tune their own setup: springs, core position and MAS. It is a good cube for learning tensioning, because a single cube lets you try several completely different setups. Someone buying their first cube may get lost in all these options. In that case, a simpler magnetic model will be more convenient.
