Ninja 3x3 Ghost Cube (Star pattern) is a Ghost Cube from Ninja with a starry sky print. The same pattern covers all six sides. Mechanically it's a regular 3x3 cube, but the cuts run at unusual angles. The cube loses its cube shape with the very first move, and every piece has a different shape and size. Since all sides look the same, colour gives you no hints, so you solve this cube by shape alone.

What makes it challenging

You already know the algorithms from the classic 3x3, but applying them is harder. The pieces don't line up in a regular grid, so you have to recognise them by their shape. Centre orientation matters too, because on a Ghost Cube you can see whether a centre is rotated. Even experienced cubers say in their reviews that their first solve took them many hours. That's why it's best to have a Mirror Cube or another shape-shifting puzzle under your belt first.

How it turns

The cube comes factory-lubed and turns smoothly right out of the box. However, it's a shape mod, not a speedcube. The layers have different shapes, so corner cutting is limited. If the layers aren't aligned precisely, lockups can happen, and some reviews also mention centres popping out. This cube is meant to be turned calmly and accurately, not at high TPS. According to the seller, tension is adjusted with adjustment screws.

Star pattern finish

The pattern is printed directly on the pieces and covered with a matte finish that protects it from wearing off. A stand is included in the box, so your solved Ghost Cube can sit on a shelf as a decoration.

Who is it for?

For cubers who know the 3x3 well and are looking for a new challenge, and for collectors of shape-shifting puzzles. It's a poor choice as a child's first cube, because without knowing how to solve a 3x3 it's easy to get discouraged. This model is not allowed in official WCA competitions.
