Picube MGC 6x6 Core Magnet

Picube MGC 6x6 Core Magnet is Picube's modified version of the YJ MGC 6x6, one of the most popular 6x6 cubes in the budget segment. The mechanism and size are the same as in the regular MGC. Picube adds magnets in the core and in the corners, a solution that had not appeared in big cubes before. The cube arrives already lubed by Picube. In our shop it is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

What the core magnets change

The standard MGC 6x6 is fast and smooth, but it has a well-known drawback: if the tension is set too loose, it tends to pop. The magnets in the core and in the corners work together, so whole blocks of layers stay in place better. In practice, the cube is more stable during fast turning and is less likely to misalign when you turn the outer layers. On a 6x6 this matters a lot, because a single pop in the middle of a solve can ruin your whole time.

The character of the cube doesn't change. It is still an MGC: a light, compact 6x6 with a clear magnetic pull on the layers. Don't expect a different cube, just the same platform with tighter, more "controlled" behaviour. After taking it out of the box, it's worth checking the tension and setting it to suit your style, as the base model is often loose out of the box.

Regular MGC or the Core Magnet version?

The regular YJ MGC 6x6 is much cheaper and still performs well, especially as a first magnetic 6x6. The Picube version makes sense for those who already know the MGC, like its feel and mainly want better stability and less popping. If you are just getting started with big cubes, you can safely begin with the standard version.

Who is it for?

For cubers who regularly solve 6x6 and want a more stable cube for fast solves without switching to a completely different mechanism. The cube will also suit those who had popping problems with the regular MGC and don't want to run it at a very tight setting.
