Picube WeiLong WRM 2019 Core Magnet 3x3

This cube is the MoYu WeiLong WRM 2019 in a version with added core magnets, prepared by PiCube. MoYu has already discontinued the original 2019 WRM, yet many cubers still reach for it because it has a different character from the newer WeiLong generations. The Core Magnet version keeps that character, but the cube behaves more stably during fast turning.

What is the WRM 2019?

The WeiLong WRM is a version of the WeiLong GTS3 M without ridges, meaning without the raised edges on the pieces. MoYu also refined its dual adjustment system, which gives you more precise control over spring tension and compression. The plastic is glossy but has no UV coating. According to users, the feel is rather tactile and "clicky" rather than smooth like newer MagLev models. Some people notice a sandy feel and audible springs right out of the box. Lubing usually helps with this.

What do the core magnets do?

In the standard WRM, the magnets are only between the pieces. The PiCube version adds magnets in the core that pull the pieces towards the centre of the cube. Turning speed doesn't change, but the layers snap into place more readily and the cube handles aggressive turning more calmly. This setup works well for cubers who value control and predictability more than the lightest possible turning.

WRM 2019 or a newer WeiLong?

Newer models, i.e. the WRM V9 and V10, come in factory Ball-Core versions, and the V9 and V10 are also available with MagLev and UV coating. The cube on offer here is a different proposition: a classic spring mechanism from 2019, enhanced with core magnets. It will suit someone who liked the WRM 2019 or is looking for a more tactile feel better than someone who simply wants MoYu's latest flagship.

Who is it for?

For intermediate and advanced cubers who know the differences between models and deliberately choose an older design. If you're a parent buying a first cube for your child, we'd rather recommend a cheaper magnetic model that is currently in production.
