QiYi 5x5 Magic Clock

QiYi 5x5 Magic Clock is a Clock variant also known as the QiYi Pentagram Clock. Instead of the 3x3 layout known from competitions, with 9 clock faces on each side, it is shaped like a five-pointed star with 10 clock faces and 5 wheels. The goal stays the same: you need to set all the hands on both sides to 12 o'clock. The different layout of the faces, however, means that solving it takes more planning. This QiYi puzzle is available in two colors: blue (Blue) and pink (Pink).

How it differs from a regular Clock

The classic 3x3 Clock is an official WCA event. The 5x5 version is not an official event, so people usually buy it as a new challenge rather than as competition gear. Methods from the 3x3 Clock are useful only as a starting point, because you have to adapt them to the star layout. If you are just starting out with Clock and want to train for competitions, begin with the standard QiYi Clock. It's better to save the 5x5 version for later.

Magnets in the wheels and pins

Just like the magnetic QiYi Clock 3x3, this model uses magnets. They work at the wheels (dials) and the buttons (pins), so the hands stop exactly on each hour and the pins hold their set position. In practice, a dial doesn't get stuck between two hours, and it's easier to keep control of the setting when turning fast. The hours are marked with numbers.

Who is it for?

For people who already know the regular Clock and are looking for something more difficult. It will also appeal to collectors of unusual puzzles. It can be an interesting gift for a child who enjoys logic puzzles, too, but as a first Clock it is quite demanding.
