A void cube is a 3x3 puzzle with no centers and no visible core, so you can see straight through the middle of every face. The QiYi Colored Translucent Magnetic Void 3x3 UV is the version with magnets and a UV coating. It has colored, translucent stickerless pieces that let you see the inner mechanism. It looks unusual, but it turns like a regular magnetic 3x3 cube, not like a collector's curiosity.

How does it turn?

According to reviews and customer feedback, the QiYi Void turns surprisingly smoothly for a centerless design. The magnets clearly help the layers settle into place, and lockups are rare. Corner cutting is weaker than on a typical speedcube, though. It is less forgiving of imprecise turns than a modern flagship, so when turning fast you need to pay a bit more attention to accuracy. The UV coating gives it a smooth, glossy surface with a good grip.

How is it different from a regular 3x3 cube?

The missing centers change the solving itself. On a classic cube, the centers show where each color belongs. Here you have to work it out from the corners. On top of that, some solves end with parity, a case that can't be solved with standard 3x3 algorithms. If you can solve a regular cube, you'll handle the Void after learning just one extra algorithm.

QiYi Void versions

QiYi makes the Void in several variants: non-magnetic, magnetic, and magnetic with a UV coating, either in a stickerless color scheme or with colored, translucent pieces. This version combines all three features: magnets, UV coating and colored, translucent pieces. The non-UV versions have a matte surface. The non-magnetic version doesn't settle the layers as well.

Who is it for?

This cube makes sense if you can already solve a classic 3x3 and want a new challenge, or if you collect shape mods. It's also a great gift for a child who has mastered the regular cube. For a first cube to learn on, a regular magnetic 3x3 will be a better choice.
