QiYi Haptic Coin Spinner

QiYi Haptic Coin Spinner

QiYi Haptic Coin Spinner is a small coin-shaped fidget spinner, something to keep your hands busy rather than a puzzle to solve. It has fixed finger pads on both sides. You hold it by the pads between your thumb and index finger, and the disc between them spins freely. The principle is the same as in a classic fidget spinner, only the shape is round and much flatter.

How to use it

You hold the spinner by the centre and set the coin spinning with your other hand or a finger. So you usually need both hands, because it's hard to hold it and spin it with one hand at the same time. It's also not a bearing spinner that keeps going for a very long time. The coin spins rather briefly, which is confirmed by user reviews. It works better for fiddling with while you study, talk or watch solves than for showing off long spins.

It's small and light, so it fits in a pocket or pencil case. It can also sit next to your cube on the desk, so you have something to spin between solves.

Spinner or Button?

In the same series, QiYi also offers the Haptic Coin in a Button version. That model isn't meant for spinning. It has clicky buttons on both sides, and its halves rotate with a noticeable click. If you mainly like clicking, the Button is probably the better choice. If you care more about the spinning itself, the Spinner will suit you better.

Who is it for?

It's a simple, inexpensive add-on to an order with cubes or a small gift for a child or adult who likes having something in their hands. You don't need to know anything about speedcubing to use it. If you expect a very long and smooth spin, keep in mind that the Haptic Coin Spinner is more of a gadget for fiddling with in your fingers than a spinner focused on spin time.
