QiYi Ice Amber Axis

QiYi Ice Amber Axis is an Axis Cube, one of the classic 3x3 shape mods, in a transparent version from the Ice Amber series. The body is made of clear "ice" plastic, and instead of stickers it has semi-transparent coloured tiles in the standard colour scheme. QiYi launched the Ice Amber series in 2025. Besides the Axis, it includes the Mirror, Windmill, Fisher, Ivy, Pyraminx Duo and a regular 3x3, among others.

How the Axis Cube works

Inside is a regular 3x3 mechanism, but the cuts are shifted and set at an angle to the faces. After just a few moves the cube loses its cubic shape and turns into a solid with irregular edges. You solve it by colour and shape at the same time: you have to recognise the pieces by their form, not just their colour, and the moves are made along axes that don't line up with the flat faces.

The Axis is considered one of the harder 3x3 shape mods and can really surprise you, even if you solve a regular cube without thinking. Knowing a 3x3 method helps, because the algorithms are the same. The main challenge is reading correctly which piece goes where.

The Ice Amber version

The mechanism is the same as in other QiYi Axis versions. Only the look is different. The clear plastic lets you see inside the cube, and the tiles don't wear off or peel like classic stickers. The Ice Amber series is mainly for people who want a puzzle that looks great on the shelf and is still fun to play with.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve a 3x3 and are looking for a new challenge beyond WCA puzzles. The Axis can be your first shape mod, but be prepared for the start to take some patience. Thanks to its transparent body, it also works well as a gift or a collection piece. This cube isn't meant for setting speed records. It's all about figuring out the shape, not TPS.
