QiYi Ice Amber Pyraminx Lite

QiYi Ice Amber Pyraminx Lite

QiYi Ice Amber Pyraminx Lite is part of the Ice Amber series, a line of puzzles QiYi released in the same style: a clear plastic body with an ice effect and colorful, semi-transparent tiles instead of stickers. This makes the Pyraminx look a bit like a crystal, and you can see the mechanism working through the faces. The tile colors follow the classic Pyraminx color scheme, so you don't need to adjust when solving.

Tiles instead of stickers

The colored areas are separate plastic tiles set into the pieces, not thin vinyl. With everyday turning, they don't peel at the corners or wear off like regular stickers, which is especially useful if the puzzle is for a child. If a tile isn't sitting flush when you take the puzzle out of the box, pressing it in with your finger is usually enough.

What this Pyraminx is good for

This is mainly a puzzle for learning and collecting, not competition gear. The Ice Amber series is simple and affordable, and it's all about the looks. The Pyraminx Lite has no tension adjustment and no magnet system like modern speedcubing Pyraminxes. For timed practice and high TPS, magnetic models such as the QiYi MS series, QiMing or MeiLong M are a better choice.

Who it makes sense for:

• someone who wants to start exploring puzzles other than the 3x3 cube,
• a parent looking for an unusual-looking gift for a child,
• a collector of the Ice Amber series. In the same style, QiYi has also released a 3x3 cube, Mirror, Windmill, Fisher, Axis and Ivy Cube, among others.
