QiYi M Pro 2x2x2 Ball Core

QiYi M Pro 2x2 Ball Core is the successor to the QiYi MS, one of the most popular budget magnetic 2x2 cubes of recent years. QiYi has kept the light, soft feel of its predecessor and added newer features: a magnetic Ball-Core, tension adjustment and a larger 51 mm size. The version we offer is stickerless in bright colors, made of matte plastic with medium grip.

How it turns

The cube is fast, with smooth and soft turning. The magnets are medium to strong and clearly snap the layers into place. The corner magnets sit closer together than in the MS, so you feel less of the magnets "jumping" as you turn. One detailed test shows forward corner cutting of over 45 degrees and high tolerance for reverse corner cutting.

From the factory, there is only a little lube inside. This makes it easier to set up the cube to your liking, but some people feel it doesn't show its full potential without lubing. There are also reports of audible springs right out of the box. Lube usually helps with this.

Ball-Core and tension adjustment

• Ball-Core: the core contains magnets that pull the corners towards the center of the cube. They help align the layers and stabilize the cube during fast turning.
• Tension adjustment: the Dual-Adjustment system with 5 settings lets you tune the cube more towards speed or towards control.

Ball Core or the standard version?

The mechanism, size and piece magnets are the same in both versions. The Ball-Core adds magnets in the core and therefore a bit more stability. However, reviewers rate this difference as small. If every bit of stability matters to you, choose the Ball Core. If not, the standard M Pro 2x2 will behave very similarly.

Who is it for?

For anyone buying their first 2x2 cube or wanting to replace an older MS or another budget 2x2 with something newer. For little money, you get magnets, a Ball-Core and tension adjustment. The M Pro is also good enough for advanced cubers, as it makes a good base for your own setup. The cube is relatively light, so if you prefer heavier 2x2s, keep that in mind.
