QiYi M Pro 3x3x3 Maglev

The M Pro series is QiYi's more affordable line, but in this version the manufacturer used a solution known from its more expensive models. QiYi M Pro 3x3x3 Maglev is a 3x3 magnetic cube in which the classic springs have been replaced with repelling magnets (MagLev). On top of that, you get an adjustment system you set with your fingers, with no key needed. The surface is matte (frosted), and the colour scheme is stickerless bright.

How it turns

Turning is smooth, but with a distinct, clacky sound. Corner cutting is snappy, which means that after cutting a corner the layer clearly snaps back into place on its own. The magnets in the pieces give noticeable layer alignment. Reviewers rate their strength as medium to medium-strong, so the cube doesn't feel heavy to turn. Since there are no springs, you won't hear the typical spring noise either. In the edges, QiYi used interlocking contact surfaces (double contact), which are meant to improve stability.

This is still a budget cube. The plastic and the overall feel don't match flagship models, and the factory setup won't suit everyone. That's why it's worth trying a few adjustment levels right away.

MagLev and adjustment

• Classic screw adjustment for setting the tension (axis distance).

Which M Pro version should you choose?

The standard version has traditional springs and feels more conservative when turning. MagLev, i.e. this model, has lighter and faster turning with the same matte surface. The Ball-Core UV version additionally has magnets in the core, repelling magnets in the edges and a glossy UV coating. This makes it more stable, but also slightly heavier. QiYi later released further generations of the M Pro (V2 and V3). This product is the first-generation version from 2023.

Who is it for?

For someone who already has a basic cube and wants to try MagLev before buying a more expensive model. It also works well as a first decent magnetic cube for a child who can already solve a 3x3. If you want more stability at fast turning speeds, consider the Ball-Core version.
