An affordable megaminx from QiYi that works well as your first step into this event. This version of the QiYi QiHeng S2 Megaminx has no magnets. It has sculpted outer pieces, matte plastic and a stickerless bright colour scheme. It's also light: at 86 mm, it weighs approx. 117 g.

How it turns

User reviews of this model are fairly consistent. Out of the box it turns properly and without much resistance, but it isn't a speed-oriented puzzle. Some people find the turning scratchy and the corner cutting limited. The puzzle has no magnets, so the faces don't "click" into place and you have to align each layer carefully by hand. During fast turning this takes more attention, and imprecise moves lead to lockups more often. For learning algorithms and relaxed solving, it's more than enough.

The low weight is an advantage during longer solves, as you hold a megaminx in your hands much longer than a 3x3. The model is similar in size and shape to the YJ YuHu V2, but noticeably lighter.

Design

Non-magnetic version or QiHeng S2 M?

The QiHeng S2 is also available in a magnetic version (marked M). It has 120 factory-installed magnets that help align the faces, and it's slightly heavier. Both versions have the same shape and the same finish. If you want to find out whether you enjoy the megaminx at all, or you're buying a puzzle for a child, the non-magnetic version will do just fine. If you want to train for time and are thinking about competitions, the magnetic version will serve you better.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve a 3x3 and want to try the megaminx without spending much. It also makes a good gift for a younger cuber or another puzzle for your collection. An advanced speedcuber looking for a puzzle for high TPS should rather go for a high-end magnetic megaminx.
