QiYi QiMing Plus Max Pyraminx

A giant Pyraminx from QiYi. Each edge is 55.9 cm long and the puzzle weighs around 3.5 kg, so it's more of a piece of furniture than something you carry in your pocket. The QiYi QiMing Plus Max Pyraminx is the largest version in the QiMing series. Below it are the QiMing Plus (27.5 cm) and standard-size pyraminxes such as the S2 and S3. Unlike the cheaper standard-size QiMing models, the Plus Max comes with factory-installed magnets.

How does it turn?

The mechanism is built like a regular speedcubing pyraminx, just on a much bigger scale. The magnets help the layers snap into place, so with such large, heavy pieces it's easier to hit the right position and the turns don't feel chaotic. Don't expect it to turn like a 10 cm pyraminx, though. With this much weight, every move takes one hand or both, and solving is most comfortable on a table or on the floor. TPS and fingertricks don't matter here. What counts is the effect and the fun of it.

The solving methods are exactly the same as on a standard Pyraminx. If you know L4E, Top First or a simple beginner method, you can solve the Plus Max without learning anything new.

Plus or Plus Max?

Both versions are large QiYi pyraminxes made for display and fun. The Plus, with its 27.5 cm edge, is about the size of a basketball and you can still hold it in your hands. The Plus Max is twice as big in every dimension and much heavier, so it needs a permanent spot. If you want a large puzzle that's comfortable to turn, the Plus is the more sensible choice. The Plus Max is the one to pick when scale matters most.

Who is it for?

For collectors of unusual puzzles and Pyraminx fans who want something truly unique on their shelf. It also works as room decor, a decoration at events and competitions, or an attraction at a school or cubing club. It isn't suitable for practice or timed solves. For that, go for a standard-size pyraminx.
