QiYi Smart Cube UV 3x3

QiYi Smart Cube UV is a magnetic 3x3 cube with Bluetooth. It connects to the free QiYi Smart Player app, which records every move you make while solving. Inside is a proper speedcube mechanism, so this is not just a toy with electronics. This version has a UV coating and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

What a smart cube gives you

The cube detects turns on its own and sends them to your phone. After each solve, the app shows your time, statistics and a replay of the whole solve, so it's easy to see which stage costs you the most time. You can choose solo training, learning to solve with hints, 1v1 battles against players from around the world, or competing in private rooms. Timing can be handled by the app, by the cube itself or by the QiYi Smart Timer, if you have one.

It runs on non-rechargeable batteries which, according to the manufacturer, last for about 800 hours of solving. The batteries can be replaced, but you need to disassemble the cube to do it.

How it turns

Mechanically, it's a regular magnetic 3x3 with 48 magnets in the corners and edges. Reviewers describe the magnets as medium strength and the feel as smooth, with a clear but not harsh click. Straight out of the box the cube can feel a bit sandy, and a little lube usually helps. During very fast turning, some people notice occasional catches. For analysing your solves and everyday practice, it's more than enough.

UV or standard version?

The electronics and mechanism are the same in both versions. The UV version has a glossy coating that gives a better grip and is more resistant to scratches. The standard version has matte plastic.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to start analysing their solves or training with an app, but doesn't want to pay for a flagship smart cube. It also works well for beginners, as the app helps them learn. If you need adjustable magnets or a refined main for competitions, it's better to choose a higher-end cube.
