QiYi Thunderclap 4x4x4 62 mm

QiYi Thunderclap 4x4x4 62 mm

QiYi Thunderclap 4x4x4 62 mm is a non-magnetic 4x4 cube from QiYi's (MoFangGe) Thunderclap series, released in 2018. It was preceded by the Thunderclap 3x3, which made the whole line popular. The 4x4 is based on it and has a similar internal design, and when you solve it you can feel it belongs to the same family. It weighs about 126 g, and its 62 mm size is the standard full size for a 4x4.

How the QiYi Thunderclap 4x4 turns

Turning is fairly smooth, and the cube gives a clear "click" with every move. Corner cutting is decent but not outstanding. Out of the box the cube can feel slower and a bit scratchy. Once lubed and with the tension set, it improves noticeably. Fast, aggressive turning can cause lockups and center popping, so it pays to turn accurately and spend a moment on adjustment. Tension is set with adjustment screws.

No magnets, but ready for upgrades

The Thunderclap 4x4 comes without magnets. However, its design is well suited to DIY magnetizing. If you want to give it a try, magnets will clearly improve stability and how precisely the layers align. Just keep in mind that modern magnetic 4x4 cubes come with magnets as standard.

62 mm or 60 mm?

The same series also includes the Thunderclap Mini 4x4, a 60 mm cube that is slightly lighter and more compact. It fits smaller hands better. This product is the standard 62 mm version.

Who is it for?

It's a good first 4x4 for learning center reduction, edge pairing and parity. It's also a good choice if you need a spare 4x4 cube or a base for your own magnetizing. A speedcuber who wants a stable cube for high TPS right away will be better off with a newer magnetic model. The cube is allowed in official competitions and is available in Black, White and Stickerless Bright versions.
