The QiYi Warrior 2x2 M UV is a budget magnetic 2x2 cube from the Warrior series. It uses the same mechanism as the regular magnetic version, but the plastic has a glossy UV coating. The cube measures 50 mm, weighs about 58 g and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme. The magnets are only in the pieces. There are no core magnets (Ball-Core) and no MagLev system.

How it turns

The magnets are light. With every turn you feel a gentle "click" that helps you align the layer, without much resistance. Users praise its smooth turning and good corner cutting. The manufacturer says the corners are designed to reduce lockups and the mechanism has anti-pop protection.

It isn't a flawless cube, though. Some people find the magnets too weak and barely noticeable. With aggressive turning, the cube can be less stable than more expensive models. It also sometimes comes over-lubed out of the box. This usually goes away after a few days of solving.

UV coating or regular plastic?

The Warrior 2x2 series includes a non-magnetic version, an M version with matte plastic and the M UV version. The only difference between the M and M UV versions is the finish. The UV coating is smooth and glossy and gives more grip than matte plastic, so the cube sits more securely in your hands. If you prefer matte plastic with medium grip, go for the M version without UV. Compared with the non-magnetic version, the M UV version helps you align layers more noticeably, which is especially useful when you're starting out.

Who is it for?

This magnetic 2x2 cube works well as a first cube, including for kids. It's also a cheap step up from a non-magnetic cube or a spare 2x2 for your backpack. The Warrior M UV needs no setup right away and works well for everyday practice. A speedcuber who solves 2x2 regularly and needs stronger magnets, more stability and tension adjustment should rather consider a higher-end model, such as the QiYi M Pro 2x2.
