QiYi WuQue 4x4x4 Mini

QiYi WuQue 4x4x4 Mini (made by MoFangGe, released in 2018) is a smaller version of the WuQue, one of the best-known 4x4 cubes in speedcubing history. After the full-size WuQue was released, 4x4 records started falling quickly, and for a long time the cube was the standard among competitors. The Mini version measures approx. 60 mm, which means it is 2 mm smaller than the classic WuQue in every dimension. This variant has no magnets.

A design focused on stability

The mechanism is similar to other modern 4x4 cubes, but it has two distinctive features. The first is an extra ring just above the bases of the corner feet, the second is the noticeably wider lower parts of the outer edges. The protrusions of the centers and outer edges fit into both of these elements, which stabilizes the layers as you turn. As a result, the inner edges don't need torpedoes at all.

The wider outer layers also help after the reduction, as the 3x3 stage is more predictable and easier to control.

How it turns

The cube turns smoothly, and corner cutting is excellent. Out of the box, however, it has stiff springs, so turning resistance is fairly high. If you prefer lighter turning, you can loosen the cube with the adjustment screws or shorten the springs (spring compression).

Magnetization

The cube has no factory magnets, so it makes a good base for your own magnetization. A setup that will suit most people is 4x1 mm magnets on the inside and 4x1.5 mm on the outside. After this mod, the cube is noticeably more stable and less prone to overshooting.

Who is it for?

The WuQue Mini suits anyone who wants an affordable, proven 4x4 cube without magnets. It also fits well in smaller hands. It's a good base, too, for anyone who enjoys setting up and magnetizing cubes themselves. If you want a cube that's ready for speedsolving straight out of the box, a magnetic model is a better choice. The cube is legal for official competitions.
