This dodecahedron shares little more than its shape with the classic Megaminx. The SengSo Blossoms Megaminx by ShengShou, also known as the Petal Megaminx, has a pattern resembling a five-petal flower on every face. According to distributors' descriptions, you don't turn whole faces here, only the pieces around the edges. It is a non-WCA puzzle, so you buy it for your collection and for solving at home rather than for competitions.

How it differs from a regular Megaminx

On a standard Megaminx you turn one of the twelve faces, and the centers stay in place. On the Blossoms, an edge turn moves pieces between neighboring faces in a completely different way. That's why Megaminx or 3x3 cube methods won't be enough, and you'll need to work out your own approach. Once scrambled, the flower pattern breaks up into colorful petals, so the puzzle also looks great as a decoration on your shelf.

Build

This is the stickerless bright version. The colors are in the plastic itself, so there are no stickers that could peel off or wear away over time. The model was released in April 2025. It weighs approx. 125 g and is noticeably lighter than its size suggests, so it sits comfortably in both hands.

For people who can already solve a Megaminx or a 3x3 cube and want to try a different kind of turning. It's also a great pick for collectors of unusual puzzles. This isn't a puzzle you can solve by following a ready-made beginner's guide. Knowing commutators and having a bit of patience will help. For a child's first puzzle, a classic 3x3 cube or a regular Megaminx is a better choice. The Blossoms can make a great gift for someone who already knows the basics and enjoys new challenges.
