If a Megaminx means turning faces to you, this puzzle works differently. The SengSo Helicopter Megaminx from ShengShou is shaped like a dodecahedron, but you turn it around the edges, not the faces. It works just like a Helicopter Cube, only on a twelve-sided shape. The manufacturer also sells it as the SengSo Helicopter Dodecahedron. How it differs from a regular Megaminx

On a classic Megaminx, a turn always moves a whole face and the pieces next to it. On a helicopter puzzle, you turn part of the shape around an axis that runs through the middle of an edge, and a single move shifts pieces of two neighbouring faces. Because of this, solving it feels nothing like a 3x3 or a Megaminx. Algorithms from face-turning puzzles are almost useless here, so you need to learn a new method or come up with your own. That is a big part of the fun.

How to solve it

A dodecahedron has a lot of edges and pieces. Once it is scrambled, it is easy to lose track of which pieces belong together, so this helicopter puzzle takes more patience than a Helicopter Cube.

It is a good choice if you can already solve a 3x3 and a Megaminx and are looking for something new for your collection or to figure out on your own. It is not a WCA event, so you buy it for fun and as a challenge, not to train for competitions. For a child's first puzzle, a regular 3x3 cube or the simpler Helicopter Cube is a better pick.
