ShengShou (SengSo) Elite Kilominx is a 6x6 megaminx: a dodecahedron with six layers on every face. In ShengShou's kilominx series it sits one step above the Master Kilominx (4x4) and below the Royal Kilominx (8x8). Our version is Stickerless Bright. Instead of stickers it uses coloured plastic in bright shades, so nothing peels off or wears away, even after many solves.

How it turns

The Elite Kilominx comes factory lubed, and quite generously. Straight out of the box it may feel a little "greasy", but after a few scrambles and solves the lube spreads out and the turning becomes noticeably smoother. Users point out that for a puzzle of this size it turns lightly and doesn't catch on lockups the way older, larger minxes do.

The puzzle has no magnets, so the layers don't snap into place on their own. When you turn faster, misalignments can happen and you need to line up the layers more precisely. In a puzzle that takes a long time to solve this isn't a big problem, but if you're used to a magnetic megaminx, you'll feel the difference.

How it differs from other minxes

The Elite Kilominx has flat faces and coloured caps on the face centres, which makes it easy to keep your bearings. You solve it with the reduction method, just like big cubes: first the centres, then edge pairing, and finally you solve it like a regular megaminx. Unlike the Gigaminx (5x5) and Teraminx (7x7), it has an even number of layers, so there is no fixed single-piece centre to build each centre around.

Who is it for?

It's for those who can already solve a megaminx comfortably, ideally have a Master Kilominx or Gigaminx under their belt too, and are looking for a bigger challenge. It's more of a collector's puzzle for long, relaxed sessions than a tool for setting fast times. If you're only just starting out with dodecahedrons, a classic megaminx is a better first choice.
