SengSo Master Kilominx V3 – a 4x4 kilominx by ShengShou

SengSo Master Kilominx V3 is the third generation of ShengShou's 4x4 kilominx. It has the shape of a megaminx, but each face is divided into four layers instead of three. It is an even-order puzzle, so it has no fixed centers. You solve it much like a 4x4 cube: first you build the centers, then you pair up the edges, and finally you solve the whole puzzle like a megaminx. This one comes in Stickerless Bright, which means it is made of brightly coloured plastic with no stickers that could wear off or peel.

How it turns

At about 74.5 mm, the Master Kilominx V3 is small for a puzzle of this order. It sits comfortably in your hand and you don't have to reach far with your fingers, which people with smaller hands will also appreciate. According to the manufacturer, the rounded corners of the pieces help when a turn isn't perfectly aligned. The puzzle is meant to forgive small inaccuracies instead of locking up straight away. The pieces snap together, and all 12 axes are held by a one-piece core. This design is meant to reduce popping during faster turning.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with screws. The center caps come off quickly, so you don't need to take the whole puzzle apart to adjust it. You can loosen it so it turns more freely, or tighten it to make it more controllable and stable.

Non-magnetic version

The Master Kilominx V3 comes in two versions: non-magnetic and magnetic (240 magnets, approx. 188 g). Our variant weighs 174 g and has no magnets, so it is lighter. The turns don't "click" into place – your fingers decide how precisely the layers line up. The magnetic version holds layer alignment better. The non-magnetic version suits those who prefer a lighter, freer feel or want to install magnets themselves later.

Who is it for?

It's a good puzzle for people who already know the megaminx and the 4x4 cube. The Master Kilominx is usually a second step, when you want to expand your minx collection or practise building centers and pairing edges on a different shape. For your first puzzle from this family, a regular megaminx is a better choice.
