SengSo Metallic Pyraminx is a classic 3x3 pyramid puzzle from ShengShou (SengSo is the brand's newer name). Mechanically, it is a regular Pyraminx. What sets it apart is the outer layer of metallic coating, which reflects light much like chrome. The faces come in stickerless bright colors, so you solve it exactly like a regular model, just with a mirror-like shine on every color.

Metallic finish

The metallic coating covers only the outer surface. The internal pieces that rub against each other while turning are made of regular plastic, so the coating doesn't affect turning the way it could if it covered the entire pieces. The colors aren't stickers, so nothing peels off or wears away at the sticker edges, as sometimes happens with older stickered pyraminxes.

This surface is smooth and glossy, so it looks and feels different in your hands than matte stickerless plastic. If grip is your top priority, a pyraminx with matte or textured plastic is a better choice.

How a Pyraminx works

If you're new to twisty puzzles: a Pyraminx is a tetrahedron with four faces in different colors. Besides turning the layers, you can also turn the small tips separately. It's much easier to solve than a 3x3 cube, and you can learn the basic method in a short time. It's a great next step after your first cube. Pyraminx is also an official event at WCA competitions.
