A 12x12 cube from ShengShou's MoSheng series. It measures approx. 91 mm per side, has a cube shape and bright stickerless plastic. This version has no magnets and is best suited to solvers who already have experience with big cubes, as well as to collectors.
SengSo MoSheng 12x12 is a 12x12 cube from ShengShou's MoSheng series, a line of big cubes ranging from 6x6 to 15x15. The cube is stickerless in a bright colour scheme, measures approx. 91 mm per side and has a classic cube shape. The earlier ShengShou 12x12 measured approx. 100 mm and had clearly rounded (pillowed) faces. This version has no magnets. ShengShou also sells the MoSheng 12x12 in a magnetic version.
With 12 layers in 91 mm, a single row is just under 8 mm wide. The cube sits comfortably in your hands, but turning the inner layers takes precise finger placement. Without magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own, so you need to align them by hand before every move. With this many layers, that helps a lot to avoid catching. Early users praise the smooth turning, but they also report that the cube sometimes locks up and that popping can happen during faster solving. It's better to turn calmly and keep the layers aligned than to chase TPS.
The magnetic version has magnets in the pieces that help align the layers. This makes it more predictable, but it is also more expensive and slightly heavier. The non-magnetic version has a lighter, more neutral feel without a distinct "click". Some big-cube solvers prefer exactly that. If you plan to solve this cube regularly, the magnetic version is the better investment. If you want it for one or a few solves or for your collection, the non-magnetic version is enough.
The MoSheng 12x12 is for solvers who have already mastered the 7x7 and bigger cubes and want to take on a new challenge. The methods you know from smaller NxN cubes (reduction, parities) are enough to solve it. However, the 12x12 has many more centres and edges to pair, so a single solve usually takes several hours. It is not a good choice as a first cube or as a gift for a child who is just starting out.
