SengSo MoSheng 17x17 M is a magnetic 17x17 cube from ShengShou, measuring 111 mm and weighing approx. 1 kg. The magnets help align the layers, and the tension is adjustable. It has a matte stickerless bright surface and comes factory lubed.

SengSo MoSheng 17x17 M is the magnetic version of the 17x17 cube from the MoSheng series by ShengShou (SengSo). It has 1538 outer pieces, so a single solve usually takes several hours. The letter M in the name stands for magnets. At this size they are not there for breaking records. They help the layers fall into place more easily. The cube is stickerless in the bright colour scheme, has a matte (frosted) surface and comes factory lubed.
The biggest trouble on a 17x17 comes from layers that end up slightly misaligned after a move. The next turn then gets blocked, and lockups start. The magnets help align the layers after every move, so turns are more precise than on the non-magnetic version. With this many pieces, however, you should expect some catching, especially when turning faster. Calm, accurate turns work better here than high TPS. The matte plastic gives medium grip, which makes a heavy cube held in both hands easier to control.
The tension is adjustable, so you can set the cube looser or tighter. At about 1 kg and 111 mm, it is solved with both hands, and longer sessions are best done at a table. Compared with ShengShou's earlier 17x17 (Pillow series, approx. 123 mm), the MoSheng is noticeably smaller and easier to hold.
The MoSheng 17x17 is also available in a non-magnetic version. It is a bit lighter and cheaper, but the layers do not align by themselves, so you have to turn more precisely. For long solves the M version makes more sense, because misaligned layers happen less often and there is less correcting to do.
For cubers who have already conquered big cubes such as the 9x9, 11x11 or 13x13 and want to take on an even bigger challenge. Collectors of large puzzles will like it too. It is a poor choice for learning to solve: start with a 3x3, then move on to the 4x4 and 5x5.
