A new 11x11 cube from ShengShou measuring approx. 90 mm and weighing under 500 g, so it's much smaller and lighter than the old ShengShou 11x11 (approx. 108 mm). This is the stickerless bright, non-magnetic version, an affordable way to start your adventure with really big cubes.
SengSo MoSheng 11x11 is a new 11x11 cube from ShengShou and also one of the more affordable ways to get into really big cubes. The main difference from the older ShengShou 11x11 is the size. The old model was about 108 mm and weighed over 870 g. The MoSheng is about 90 mm and weighs just under half a kilogram, so it feels like a large 7x7 in your hands rather than a block you can't get your palm around. The cube comes in the stickerless bright version: the colours are in the plastic itself, so there are no stickers to wear off or peel.
With 11 layers on such a compact cube, the individual pieces are small, and there are as many as 602 outer pieces. Big cubes don't turn like a 3x3. You have to align the layers more precisely, and fast turning makes lockups and catching more likely. Sellers who have had the MoSheng in their hands agree that it turns surprisingly well for its size, but don't expect it to behave like a speed cube from a smaller category. It's worth breaking it in properly and lubing it at the start. On big cubes, lube makes a noticeable difference to how smooth the turning is.
This version has no M in its name, which means it's the non-magnetic variant. The MoSheng 11x11 is also available in a magnetic version. Magnets help the layers snap into place and give you more control, but that version is considerably more expensive.
For people who have already solved 4x4–7x7 cubes and want to challenge themselves with something much bigger, and for big cube collectors. The solving method is the same as on smaller NxN cubes (centres, edges, then 3x3 and parities), it just takes much longer. The 11x11 is not a WCA event, so it's more of a puzzle for long solving sessions than a piece of gear for breaking records. For a complete beginner or a child who is just learning the 3x3, it's too big a jump for a first cube.
