ShengShou FangYuan V2 M 3x3x3

ShengShou FangYuan V2 M 3x3x3 is the magnetic version of the FangYuan, a mid-range 3x3 cube that ShengShou released in 2016. The V2 M version came out in 2018. It measures 56 mm, weighs 79 g and comes in two plastic colors: black and white. You apply the stickers yourself, and a full set is included.

How it turns

Straight out of the box, the cube is very fast and light to turn. It has a dry feel, and the pieces offer little resistance. Some speedcubers like this, but if you prefer a more "controlled" cube, you will probably want to slow it down. The magnets are medium strength. Reviewers say they match the speed of the mechanism well and praise corner cutting on par with noticeably more expensive cubes.

Out of the box, the FangYuan V2 M can be less stable and less controllable than many cubers would like. Users repeatedly report that thicker lube on the core and pieces, plus the right choice of springs, noticeably calms the cube down and gives you more control during fast turning.

Springs and tension adjustment

Tension is adjusted the classic way, with screws in the core. There is no numbered adjustment system. Two sets of springs are included. The silver, stiffer ones come pre-installed. The gold ones are soft and give lighter, looser turning. This lets you find out which feel suits you better without buying extra parts. Spare screws are also included.

For anyone who wants an affordable magnetic cube with a fast, dry feel and isn't afraid of a simple setup: lube, screw adjustment or a spring swap. It also works well as a second cube for comparison or for your collection. If you are looking for a cube that is stable and predictable right out of the box, you should rather consider a model with a more controllable character.

Note for collectors: the insert in the box is tight. Remove the construction set and stickers carefully so you don't tear the packaging.
