ShengShou Teraminx is a dodecahedron with seven layers on every face. In terms of difficulty, it is the equivalent of a 7x7 cube, just in megaminx form. In the minx line-up, it is one step beyond the Gigaminx, which has five layers. The faces are completely flat, with no pillowing. The puzzle comes with standard ShengShou stickers and is available with a black (Black) or white (White) body.

How it turns

For such a complex mechanism, the Teraminx turns surprisingly well. It is lubed at the factory, so the layers turn lightly and smoothly right out of the box. This is a non-magnetic puzzle. The layers do not snap into place on their own, so you need to align the faces a bit more carefully than on modern magnetic minxes. Users report that popping can happen during aggressive turning. It is a large, heavy puzzle, better suited to relaxed solving than to pushing your TPS. Still, it is comfortable enough in the hand to hold during long solves.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. Tightening them makes the puzzle more stable and less likely to fall apart. Loosening them makes it turn more lightly, but popping becomes more likely.

Which Teraminx version?

This is the classic, first Teraminx from ShengShou: stickered and non-magnetic. The manufacturer later released newer generations, including the V3 with smaller faces and a magnetic version. They are noticeably faster and align more precisely. The classic Teraminx is a good choice if you simply want to solve a 7-layer minx or add one to your collection, and speed does not matter.

Who is it for?

For collectors and anyone who has already mastered the Megaminx and Gigaminx and wants to try something bigger. The Teraminx is not a WCA event, so it is not a puzzle you buy for official competitions. For your first dodecahedron-shaped puzzle, a regular Megaminx is a better choice.
