Vin Cube 5x5 (Ball-Core + UV)

Vin Cube 5x5 (Ball-Core + UV)

Vin Cube is a relatively new brand. It previously released 2x2 and 4x4 cubes, and in 2025 a 5x5 joined the lineup. Vin Cube 5x5 (Ball-Core + UV) is a magnetic 5x5 cube with magnets in the core (Ball-Core) and a glossy UV coating. It measures 61.5 mm, which makes it fairly compact for a 5x5, and it comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The cube is fast and turns lightly, but it doesn't have the typical "buttery" feel. Turning is dry and mechanical, and you can feel a slightly sandy texture inside. The magnets are on the light side. The Ball-Core doesn't force the layers into place. Instead, it gives a noticeable click at the end of each move and keeps the cube under control during fast turning. Users rate the corner cutting highly. The manufacturer states 35° in the normal direction and 20° in reverse. Some cubers say the cube feels better after loosening the screws by a quarter or half a turn.

There are two things worth knowing. The edges are fairly sharp, so the cube feels "boxy" in the hand. The yellow and orange are darker than on many other cubes, so in poor lighting red can be confused with orange.

Construction

• Ball-Core: magnets connecting the corners to the core. They add stability without making the cube strongly magnetic.
• 112 magnets, factory-installed.
• Larger gaps between pieces that make corner cutting easier, and widened edges for better stability.
• Anti-pop protection in the mechanism.

Ball-Core or Ball-Core + UV?

The cube is also available without the UV coating. That version has semi-glossy plastic with medium grip. The UV version is very glossy and grips your fingers better, which helps during longer big-cube solves when your hands get sweaty. If you prefer a less slippery, more neutral surface, the non-UV version will be the better choice.

Who is it for?

It's for anyone upgrading from an older 5x5, such as the YJ MGC, who wants a more modern magnetic 5x5 without going for the most expensive models. It will also suit cubers who like dry, less slippery turning and light magnets. If you're looking for a strongly magnetic, very "tight" cube or very high-contrast colours, you should also consider other flagship 5x5 models.
