X-Man Bell V2 Magnetic Pyraminx

X-Man Bell V2 Magnetic Pyraminx

The X-Man Bell V2 Magnetic Pyraminx is the second generation of the magnetic Pyraminx from X-Man Design, a brand owned by QiYi.

The original Bell was one of the first mass-produced Pyraminxes with magnetic positioning and quickly became very popular among cubers. The V2 keeps the same idea but gives you far more ways to set it up. The most important change is magnet adjustment in both the tips and the edges. This lets you match the strength of the "click" to your own turning style instead of getting used to the factory settings.

Magnet adjustment in the Bell V2 Pyraminx

The edges use three-level magnet positioning, known from the XMD Tornado V2 cube. Using the key included in the set, you turn a part inside that moves the magnet closer to or further from the core. A stronger setting gives more distinct layer stops, while a weaker one allows lighter, faster turning.

In the tips, you change the magnet strength by adding extra magnets. This solution comes from the Bell V1, where very strong magnets could be inserted and removed. In the V2, the tip magnets are weaker than in the first version and cannot be removed completely, so the tips always stay magnetic.

How it solves

Turning is smooth, and corner cutting is very good. Users describe the feel as smooth and soft, and the Pyraminx itself as fast but still controllable. Some people notice that the tips turn rather slowly straight out of the box. A drop of light water-based lube usually helps. Opinions on how it compares to the V1 are divided: some prefer the stronger magnets and more solid feel of the first version, others the better grip and wider adjustment range of the V2.

Who is it for?

The Bell V2 is a great choice for advanced solvers who want to tune the magnets to their liking, but it also works well for beginners as a first magnetic Pyraminx. It is legal for official competitions. Available colour versions: Black and Stickerless Bright. The puzzle alone weighs approx. 77 g.
