XMD Tornado AI Limited Edition

XMD Tornado AI Limited Edition 3x3

This is a limited, fully transparent version of the X-Man Tornado V4 AI smart cube, listed in some shops as the Zephyr Edition. The Tornado V4 AI is the first smart cube in the Tornado series. The cube connects to an app via Bluetooth and records every move, and its mechanism comes from the standard Tornado V4. Only 1200 units were made worldwide. The transparent stickerless plastic lets you see the electronics and the mechanism inside.

How the Tornado AI smart cube works

Moves are detected by a gyroscope and a turn recognition algorithm. This means the app sees which layers you turn and knows the current state of the cube at any moment. The app includes tutorials (LBL, CFOP, Roux), solve replays with analysis, as well as 1v1 battles and rooms for more players. To keep the electronics from affecting how the mechanism behaves as much as possible, X-Man made the smart core smaller and reinforced the core with PC plastic.

Magnets, adjustment and feel

This version has a Ball-Core with 8 magnets in the core, plus magnets in the pieces. The layers snap into place clearly, and the cube stays aligned during fast turning. The adjustment options are the same as in the V4 series: you can change tension and compression, and the manufacturer has also added a magnetic system called 1-Adjust-3. The electronics add weight. At 78 g, it is a few grams heavier than the standard Tornado V4, which you may notice in your hand if you are used to light cubes. The surface has a UV coating that gives good grip.

One practical note: on transparent stickerless faces, white and blue are harder to tell apart than on a regular stickerless cube. Some people may find this distracting during timed solves.

Limited Edition or the standard V4 AI?

The electronics and the app are the same in both versions. The Limited Edition stands out with its transparent look, the magnetic Ball-Core and an extended collector's set. If you only need a smart cube for practice and solve analysis, the standard Tornado V4 AI in coloured plastic will be more than enough.

Who is it for?

This version is for collectors of X-Man cubes and for speedcubers who want a limited edition of the Tornado smart cube. The large case and extras also make it a great gift idea for someone who already solves.
