This is the smart cube version of the Tornado V4 from X-Man Design (QiYi). The XMD Tornado V4 AI 3x3 UV has built-in electronics with a gyroscope and sends every move via Bluetooth to the Smart Player Pro app. On the outside, it is still a Tornado V4: 55.5 mm in size, with magnets in the pieces and a glossy UV coating. This version also comes with a charging case that works as a power bank. Colour scheme: stickerless bright.

How it turns

The Tornado V4 is known more for control than for pure speed. It is smooth, fairly quiet and stable, and the magnets clearly snap the layers into place. According to user reviews, the AI version keeps this character and doesn't feel like a gadget full of electronics in your hand. It weighs 76.5 g, a few grams more than the regular V4. Straight out of the box it can be a bit stiff and may lock up. The factory lube wears in fairly quickly, so it's a good idea to re-lube it after the first few hundred solves. If you're used to very light MagLev cubes, it may feel a little less "airy".

Smart cube and app

A gyroscope and a turn-recognition algorithm track the moves and orientation of the cube. The Smart Player Pro app runs on iOS and Android. It offers training modes, a step-by-step breakdown of your solves, statistics with recommendations and online battles. According to users, it supports CFOP and Roux. There aren't always many players online, so you'll often play against bots.

Power bank included

The charging case has a 1000 mAh battery and also works as storage for the cube. According to the manufacturer, one full charge of the case is enough for 6-9 full charges of the cube, which adds up to about 200 hours of use. Handy when you solve away from home.

• Tornado V4 AI UV (without power bank) is the same cube, but charged on a stationary base.
• Tornado V4 AI UV with Power Bank comes with a battery case, convenient for travel and storage.
• Tornado V4 AI Zephyr LE is a limited, transparent edition with extra accessories.
• The regular Tornado V4 (Flagship, Pioneer) has no electronics and is lighter. It's enough if you don't need the app.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want data-driven training: analysing solves, spotting weaker steps and practising with the app, all on a cube with a stable, predictable feel. The app's learning modes can also help younger solvers. For a child's first cube, though, a simpler magnetic model without electronics is usually enough.
