YJ MGC Beta 2x2 is a new magnetic 2x2 cube from YJ and the successor to the popular budget MGC 2x2. Some shops sell it as the MGC2 Beta. It measures 51 mm and weighs only 63 g, which makes it a very light cube at this price. The magnets are tuned to give clear alignment of the layers without slowing down fast turning. We sell the standard version in the stickerless bright colour scheme, with matte (frosted) pieces.

How it turns

The cube turns fast and light, and every turn ends with a distinct "click" of the magnets. Sellers and reviewers compare its feel to classic 2x2 cubes like the Valk: the turning is smooth and fairly soft, yet stable. Corner cutting is generous, so the cube forgives turns that are not perfectly aligned and locks up less often during fast solves.

One note from user reviews: the MGC Beta can occasionally get a corner twist. On 2x2 cubes, it is better not to force twisted corners back, as you can break a piece.

Standard or Ball-Core UV version?

The MGC Beta 2x2 is also available in a Ball-Core + UV version. It has additional magnets in the core that pull the corners towards the centre, plus a glossy UV coating with stronger grip. This makes it slightly heavier, and according to distributors it feels even more stable and "settled". The standard version is lighter and more flexible, so if you like light, free turning, it may suit you better.

For anyone who wants to upgrade their first 2x2 cube to a proper magnetic speed cube, and for speedcubers looking for a light 2x2 with a classic feel at a reasonable price. It also works well as a child's first magnetic 2x2. The cube is fast, but you don't need much time to get used to it.
