YJ MGC Beta 2x2 Core Magnets UV

YJ MGC Beta 2x2 Core Magnets UV

YJ returns to the MGC series with a new 2x2. The YJ MGC Beta 2x2 Core Magnets UV (also listed elsewhere as MGC2 Beta) is a magnetic 2x2 cube in the classic 51 mm size. It has magnets in the pieces, additional magnets in the core and a glossy UV coating. This is the better-equipped of the two versions of this model. The other, standard version has magnets in the pieces only.

How it turns

The MGC Beta is a fast cube with strong corner cutting. The manufacturer aims to combine the classic feel of older 2x2s with a more modern mechanism. Users say the core magnets version keeps its speed and feels more secure during aggressive turning than the older YJ MGC 2x2. The cube never feels like it's about to pop. One buyer, however, found it a bit too fast and only got it set up to his liking after slightly tightening it. If you prefer a calmer, more controllable 2x2, keep this in mind.

Core Magnets and UV: how it differs from the standard version

• Core magnets (Ball-Core / CoreMag). On top of the magnets in the pieces, the core also pulls the layers into place. The cube aligns more easily and behaves more stably during fast turning.
• UV coating. The glossy surface gives better grip than bare plastic and wears more slowly with everyday solving.
• Weight. The core magnets add a few grams, so this version is slightly heavier than the standard one.

If you want the lightest, most free-turning cube possible, the standard version is enough. The Core Magnets UV version makes sense when you want more stability at high TPS.

Who is it for?

For cubers who train 2x2 seriously and want a fast, stable magnetic cube at a reasonable price. It also works well as a first proper 2x2 after a supermarket cube. The magnets help the layers settle into place, so even imprecise turns lead to lockups less often. A child who is just starting out probably won't notice the difference between the versions, so the cheaper standard version will be more than enough.
